SHOTS
Establishing Shot:
New scenes first shot.To give a hint to the viewer.It establishes what is going to happen in that scene.Designed to show the audience where the action is taking place.It is usually very wide shot or extreme wide shot.
Medium Shot:
It usually follows establishing shot.In mid shot the main object will be in the center of the frame.It is the most common shot used in the movies.The subject would only be half covered.
Closeup Shot:
To show some important thing to the viewers.Used regularly with mid shot.A type of shot which tightly frames a person or an object.Close up shots provides the most details to the viewers.
Extreme closeup Shot:
To cover the expression given by the subject.These shots are very close and very intensive.To show general reaction or emotion.
Master Shot:
For the entire scene,from starting to stopping the scene,the camera only follows the main character in that shot or character.[even all the other characters are shown from one view].It could be any shot.
Shoulder Shot:
This shot is usually used in conversation between two or group of people.The camera will be placed behind the shoulder of the subject listening to the talking person.Usually used after the establishing shot.
Aerial Shot:
An aerial shot is a shot of scene is taken from elevated vantage point than what is framed in the shot.Also called as Gods eye view or Birds eye view or Over head shots.
Point of view shot:
The camera covers the scene from the main characters point of vision.The camera shows what is scene by the subjects sight.
Wide shot:
The camera angle shows the entire object or person and their relation to what surrounds them.It usually has a wide frame covering all the characters in the frame.
Two shot:
Only two character will be present in the frame.This shot is used to show the emotions of the characters.
ANGLE
High angle:
The camera points down at the subject or subjects from a high angle.Used to show the subject vulnerable,powerless or weak.
Low Angle:
The camera will look up at the subject from lower place.Looks high from low.A shot from camera angle positioned low on the vertical axis anywhere below the eye-line looking up.Makes the subject looks strong and power full.
Canted/Dutch Angle:
The camera on the frame usually tilted towards one side.This angle is used during some serious discussions.
MOVEMENTS
Pan and Zoom:
Turning the camera from left to right or right to left.
Tilt:
Moving the camera up and down.
Dolly:
Tripod on slider on track.It will be easy to follow the character.The effect is achieved by zooming in or out,while the camera dollies towards or away from the subject.In such a way that the frame and the subject are in the same size.
Crane:
An external structure or machine.This is when the camera moves up or down,as if it was on a physical crane.Pan and tilt can also be done on crane itself.
Track:
Keeps on tracking the characters.Track usually means following the character from front or back or any side.It is also known as dolly or tracking shot.
Steadicam:
It is like gimble and monopod.Camera is not stationary,it will be moving.In video,the camera keeps on moving.It can be used to shoot smooth videos while the camera is moving,only by using hands.
Hand Held:
It is a film making or video recording technique where the camera is not mounted on any support materials like tripod,monopod etc.Camera will only be held in hands.
Zoom:
It is changing the focal length of the object.Where when zoomed the object appears to be coming closer towards the camera.
Reverse Zoom:
Opposite of zoom.
